Title: *** Official SM smack talk thread ***
Post by: JimPerrin on February 25, 2009, 10:29:42 am
I figured I'd start this one off.

I can't guarantee that my car will be up and running in time again this season, but I can guarantee that when it does run, you are all screwed!  :D

It runs.  That is a twinscrew charger (Lysholm).  It is huge.

Let me know if you ever need a hand with labor.
here is the difference:

I thought it looked bigger.  But then I thought it might be an optical illusion, because of the size of your tiny engine ;)

looks like that, it takes some but makes so much more. Only daily driving gets affected; gas mileage wise...

for autox its an animal... no delay and power on any rpm.  before I was suffering from low boost at low rpm and a sudden power kick when the Vtech would change cams... it hated that cause it made a sudden change that cause tires to loose traction. its really linear now.  The previous lack of torque on low rpm turn arounds issue is gone and resolved.

the issue now is... can I drive?

Lets see. I always feel like bothering people with my driving issues... there seems to be so much going on once we get going and people get pulled on all directions.  thanks for the idea.

Jose - I'm always available if you think I can help you out.  I know it seems like we're all busy, but if you can wait an extra minute or two before your run, we are always happy to help out.

This will be my 9th season and I still have no idea what I am doing :)  Just keep learning little tips and tricks from the people that know, and you'll keep getting better.

Check this baby out...

Way better than my old setup. The solid lines is the current setup on my car. The dotted graph is possibly what I was making before( from another vehicle with similar OLD jackson racing setup)

Jose,  how the hell are you going to put that power to the ground?  Cutting out the fenders and going with the 315's in the front?  Did you get a new diff yet?
Title: Re: *** Official SM smack talk thread ***
Post by: jmercado567 on March 24, 2009, 12:35:12 am
On the street 255 tires are holding really well.  The true benefit comes from being able to drive this a bit better... I foresee a ton of time decreased on prosolo starts and areas where moving quickly from point a to b matters.  The car already handled well so not too worried on that area... Somehow the braking improved as well. The new vacum is stronger and seems to help power the brakes faster and stronger.  I removed front camber as well and gained much needed traction back.

I did not get my usual funding for racing this year, the clutch LSD did not make it in.

Double adjustable shocks did not make it in either...

Fenders... are getting custom made... They are comming out nice.

275's are faster than 315.  315 wastoo much grip on the front and slows fast transitions too much.  Off the line grip was awsome but that is where it stops with 315.

One more interesting thing... with the extra power(torque)  i found it quite interesting how well the rear end gets planted on fullthrottle offset transitions... that was way cool.

What a freaking work out that course was... with my car at least.  my whole upper body is sore.

Lightweight was the best way to go on that course, and well skilled too. A few ripped a 44 on street tires and stock power compared to many.

Note to Novices and amateurs : This Goes to show that skill always have a great part on your times.  So those that were whining that they did not have more power or the car this and that... should look on to their skills first then the car.  (that includes me)

Fellow Drivers,  I have put so much effort and money to get the car to this point. I hope you guys understand I am not being mean or selfish(maybe a little selfish) if I don't share my car as I used to.

I have learned from the past two events that my car will wear everything really fast with its new setup and will become rather expensive to support two drivers. Drive shafts and tranny are a weak point and very expensive on my car. Lets not even mention tires.

Hope this is taken well.  Let it rip!

I don't blame you.  I have had such bad luck with stuff breaking on my car that I don't think I would want to risk a codriver either.  Good luck with keeping it going and getting faster - now get some bigger tires for it!

ooooh you silly SM'ers and your broken cars :)

i do not miss the days of overly modded/swapped vehicles!  i just missed 44's on my streets, could have gotten it for sure if it was not the first event of the year, i drive very timid for some reason.

So, nobody even mentions  --   "my whole upper body is sore"  ???????????

I at least expected something like:

Maybe you should get a Miata....

Well I didn't say anything because I have driven it before and it's quite the workout.  But maybe lifting some weights is in order.

Agreed Jose...my arms are killing me. Of course i did all 6 of my runs plus 2 fun runs...one in a Miata POS I mean CSP car with no power steering haha...sorry Ed.

That was definitely NOT a power course. I was only 2.5 seconds slower in a Focus SVT on ST tires. Who knows...i might have gone even faster if i had a few more runs. Maybe even beaten my SM time??

On the whole...great event!!! Sweet course and good people. I love WNY region. C U @ SEAD!!!!

PS Thanks a bunch Jose!!! That car is awesome and I feel bad that fewer people will get to enjoy it...unless of course they cough up some $$.

Thanks guys.  Brian, thanks so much for helping me out with the car and driving advise.

I think I found the problem... I think the powersteering pulley is slipping under pressure.  I did an engine wash and noticed it likes to slip very easily from just a bit of water while my son moved the steering. It slipped way too easily.

Thanks again.. see ya all at SEAD...

Hey Dale... the name I gave the course was right.
I called the course the Punisher.... and it sure was.  lol.

I found my power steering fix... going to attempt doing this.

This would be the guy with the before mentioned Focus SVT (named "crop duster by the end of event 7) I'm an official member of SM now due to a supercharger install and I fear for my life against you guys lol. But you guys have one more guy in SM, and I'm going to try my best to keep up.

I figured I'd bump this thread a little...since Andy was the only one to be able to put 1 run up that was faster than me in an STU car.  You should all be ashamed! ;)

Back from the dead!  Although SM is pretty much a tiny class now...........I'm ready.  SMF index in Pro here I come with an actual semi-competative car I hope.  The thing feels insane for this season.  Fendered FTD machine for sure.
