Title: 2010 Great Pumpkin Race Cancelled
Post by: dale on March 08, 2010, 11:26:50 am
It is with great regret that the Western New York Region SCCA announces that it cannot host the Great Pumpkin Affair 2010 at Nelson Ledges Road Course and has had to cancel the race for this year.

Racing is an expensive proposition. With expenses going up and race attendance having gone down over the past number of years the Region has lost a tremendous amount of money on the event. The Region cannot afford to lose much more money and remain viable. The cost of racing has increased to the point that the Great Pumpkin Affair would have to see between two and two and one-half times the racing participants that it received last year in order to break even on costs and that would be with a modest increase in fees.

The case and problems were presented to the members at the business meeting held on Tuesday March 2nd, 2010. During the meeting a lot of questions were raised and discussed regarding the issues and possible resolutions. Overall people came to the conclusion that its just not financially feasible to put on the race this year. The motion was made to cancel the event this year. This motion to cancel was voted on and overwhelmingly passed.

As the 2010 season progresses, we will be preparing options for the Region's potential for hosting the Great Pumpkin Affair race event in the future.
