Title: Solo at ECC North
Post by: karl on March 23, 2012, 02:32:19 pm
Today I contacted ECC North Security about another matter.  In the course of my conversation I was told that the parking lot may not be available for Solo due to construction of the new YMCA.  Has anyone heard about this?

I've driven past there a few times lately, and I don't see an issue.  It's not like they'll be working on Sunday's, and even so, the entrance to the construction area isn't near the lot we use.

I talked to Judy Hatrick, the ECC Administrative Aide for Facilities, this morning about the Mercedes-Benz club using the parking lot at the North campus for a safe driving course.  She told me it was not available, and also that it would not be available for the SCCA.  She also said she sent out an Email last week.

Lol... Mercedes-Benz club and a safe driving course... They should just join us for a proper safe driving course :)

So was I.  The real question is, what happens to our Solo season?

Information will be posted as it becomes available.

The autox council met last night, and while we haven't given up on ECCN yet, we have made the assumption that the site will be a no go for this season.  As such, we are working on trying to book another event at both Ralph Wilson, NF AFB, and an event or two at NCCC.

When things get finalized, I'll make sure to post it.

Probably not a good sign that the address for the new YMCA is 150 Tech Dr, meaning the days of shutting down Tech Dr are probably over.

From the town board minutes:
" 9. That the petitioner bear all costs of improvements to Tech Drive including the intersections at Tech/Main and Tech/Wehrle; and that the petitioner agree to undertake some improvements to Tech Drive prior to final site plan approval"

Noticed in the meeting notes that ECC has denied access to the lot to all outside groups. Any reason why given? Really sad to see that site go.

It's been impossible to get a real explanation of what's going on. It is certain that non-school activities have been moved out. Various reasons have been mentioned including construction for the new YMCA, a new attorney that won't consider outside groups, and a new committee that's decided against outside activities. We will never know what actually happened, but we are aware that we were not singled out.

Not that it helps with the loss of the site, but regardless of ECC's new policies this probably would have been the last year to use the site anyway. I don't see how you could use the lot while keeping Tech Dr open from a safety perspective. Based on the Amherst board meeting notes about intersection improvements to the Main and Wherle ends of Tech Dr for the YMCA I doubt SCCA would be allowed to close the road down anymore.
