Solo (Autocross) / Stories from Nationals
« on: September 09, 2013, 08:22:54 pm »
I was reading thru a "stories from Nationals" thread on another board and saw the following...

#88 STC Honda: most polite autocross driver ever.  Spun off-course on East side Wednesday, pretty close to a course worker, and I heard him say "sorry" as he came to a stop.

Solo (Autocross) / Re: Off-season thinking...
« on: January 24, 2013, 07:35:25 pm »
If I'm looking at it correctly, 5A would be the large lot to the east of the road that we have been using for grid - correct?  It looks like it could be large enough to use for a course.  If so, then does that mean that there are two lots fairly close together that would work for courses?  Where I'm headed with this is that I was thinking about an event with two courses up and running at the same time - co-hosted by both regions.  Possible?  Thoughts?

Have any more of the lots at the Ralph been re-paved?

Course map can be seen here...

Be aware that course setup will be Sunday morning.  Course will not be open for walking until setup is complete.

Since the event this Sunday at RIT is also an OOR event for WNY, I wanted to let everyone know that I'm chairing the event in case there are any questions or concerns.  The course map should be released in the next day or so.  Here are the highlights...

> static grid on the access road on the north side of the lot making more room for course layout
> longer course that includes two loops
> loops are non-repeating so that you won't cover the same path the same way twice
> no nasty crossing over pavement dips
> optional slalom with choice of speed or distance

FLR will be hosting an event at the Dome on Sunday.  It is open to anyone, not just SCCA members (not sure about carts for this event).

I don't think that these have been updated in a while, but it may be of some help.

This is a big job, but would be very helpful.  If you put it up on SCCAFORUMS, you may find some additional input...  and lots of potential consumers of the final results.

Solo (Autocross) / Re: New Classing Structure for 2012

I'm glad to see that FLR and WNY are staying more or less in sync on this.  No rush for an answer, but do we know what the index identifier is for each of the new classes?

Solo (Autocross) / Re: Competitor Input Needed: Road Tire Class(es)
« on: September 08, 2011, 08:26:56 pm »
In my opinion, once a smaller region has decided that they want or need indexed classes, there is a tipping point where it becomes viable and maybe even desirable to index everyone into sub-classes.  I personally think that FLR is stuck half-in/half-out which is worse than all or none.  Here's how I suggested doing it a while back...

http://www.roclife.org/forums/showthread.php?92302-ST-STS-STX-STU-STR-One-big-happy-index-class&p=1257267&viewfull=1#post1257267

In general, I agree with where you're going with this.

Solo (Autocross) / Re: June 26th @ SEAD - ProSolo!
« on: June 22, 2011, 08:35:34 am »
Tire spraying is not allowed on the staging area at a real ProSolo.  I would actually rather not see it allowed at the local event since it will already be pretty hectic.  But if its allowed, I'll be doing it.

I also see that ProSolo is now using the Solo PAX factors.  ProSolo used to have its own factors.  Did that change recently?  Its been a couple of years since I did a ProSolo.

I suggest that an additional multiplier be applied (.98?) be applied for Road Tire when picking the Challenge competitors.  A higher index could be considered for Novices.
