General Discussion / iPads and iPhones in the enterprise
« on: December 22, 2011, 12:58:06 am »
Hi everybody,

It's been a long time. Hope you haven't forgotten me ;-)

Anyhow, I just passed the last test today to become Apple Mobility Technical Competency (aka MTC) certified. What this means is that I have the knowledge to help businesses work out strategy and manage these mobile devices in the enterprise (or school). This means no longer needing to plug each device in to a computer to sync or install apps, the ability to apply policies and restrictions, similar to a managed PC in business where you do not have administrative access or just install apps over the air, totally remotely.

If you know anybody looking at deploying or managing iPads and iPhones in their business, I sure would appreciate a referral. Geographic area isn't a big limitation as virtually everything can be done remotely. BTW, right now, there are only about 120 people in the country with the MTC designation from Apple.

I'm not on the board regularly anymore. If somebody wants more information, please have them call me (8058354352) or email at

Thanks. Happy Holidays to all!

Hi everybody,

As some of you are aware, I'm now out on my own earning a living as a computer consultant. I've just finished a project for a client where I set up the back end for their e-commerce site. They are a wholesale operation based here in LA and have set up this web site to offer consumers access to their inventory.

They have set up a coupon discount for WNY/FLR members which starts today. It's 10% off everything in the store. The coupon is valid until December 11. Hopefully with these tough economic times, this will help you with your own cash flow. The coupon code is wnyscca. There is no membership verification, feel free to share the coupon if appropriate.

The web site is http://

In case you were wondering, this is not my company though I have been retained to keep the site running. Thanks.

  ST (or whatever ST ends up in) is going to look quite different next year. Dale gets a competitive car - finally after putzing around in the ITR on street tires!

Now that a couple of Tours and ProSolos have been completed, who's running what tire (and size) in ST, STS, STX and STU?

Ken is a former National Champion in that Civic before he switched classes. Last year he won ASP.  He's a multi-time National Champion in several classes and much more like an alien than human  .  Great fun to race against. He'll help make the whole region faster trying to catch him.

Ken is also one of the fastest guys I know - in anything.

A lot of people are running to Toyos out West, but there have been some rumblings from some of the Toyo drivers after the SD Tour that the tire wasn't what they expected. I don't have the specifics, so I don't know if that is good or bad.

Don't look too closely at the San Diego Tour event results. I'm not convinced that the results are representative yet. Ken is an alien and would be fast even if he was still on the old Falken RT-215 and it rained on the 2nd day. Most 1st drivers got 2 dry runs in (including Ken) and I don't think any of the 2nd drivers got a dry 2nd run. Kinda reminds me a little of Buffalo.

I like the feel of the Bridgestone RE-11's and given the wear that we've seen to date (we have 40-50 runs on a shaved set of 205s already), it does look like we'll get close to 200 runs on a set of shaved RE-11's. We were getting 200 runs on the RE-01R's as well. If you were on the RE-01R and plan to switch to the RE-11, plan on suspension changes to take advantage of the new tire. It's quite different (in my opinion better). It was already faster than the RE-01R when my Civic was set up for the RE-01R. If you have an 89 Civic that you want to set up for the RE-11, contact me and I'll share our setup with you.

FYI - Some Toyo drivers I know went through a set of new 225 fronts on a Civic in ONE practice day (3 drivers). That works out to somewhere in the region of 36 runs. Maybe a combination of bad driving and poor car setup? They ended up running a new set for the Sunday event. I was there for this one, so I personally saw their tires. Ouch!

I haven't driven on the Toyos, so I have no direct experience on them. I am also sponsored by Bridgestone, so do your own research
