BOD Meeting 2/1/12
BOD in attendance: Roy Bergman, Alan Nusbaum, Jon Wolff, Dale Kunze, Ty Noles, Dave Potocki
Also in attendance: Dave Dill, Dan Kaufman

Rich Stadium – The Rich Stadium contact, didn't like WNY Region's first offer. BOD voted unanimously to have Dave D meet the stadium's request for 2 events in 2012.

Dan K to set up training session for solo safety stewards.

Roy wants an inventory of Solo equipment. Equipment needs for 2012 are timing cables and some new cones.

Roy suggests merging Solo/Club year end trophies since they are now redundant. Jon made motion to drop Solo worker, merit, official and keep club awards. Alan seconded, vote unanimous.

Summer picnic:
Probably at a town, or other park. Bruce Jones offered possibility of using his rod/gun club. Roy wants to offer picnic free of charge, including refreshments. It's the 65th anniversary. Ty made motion, Dave seconded. Vote unanimous.

Rally: discussed trying to get a winter rally done this March, or wait until fall. Decided to wait until fall.

A few changes are in order as we enter a new year, a new competition season and strive
to redefine our purpose as a club and to increase the region’s importance to its members.

Hot on the heels of New Year’s weekend, with the promise of getting together a few weeks later at a well-attended Awards Banquet at Chef’s on January 21, and with not much happening anyway, there will be

Our next meeting will be on

4611 Genesee Street, Cheektowaga, across from the Airport Holiday Inn, approximately1-1/2-miles from Transit Road,  839-4022

The Rose Garden has been an excellent location for out activities for a long time, but not so much anymore.  The Olympic is a conveniently-located meeting place, serving good food at reasonable prices.  Let’s try it for a few months.

Meetings will move to Monday evenings and begin promptly at 7:30 PM in order to accommodate our new meeting place’s schedule and to, hopefully, put some of the Business back into our Business Meetings.

As the Western New York Region evolves, our direction must be determined by our members.  Please come to the meetings and express yourself, offer your ideas, become involved.  Or, speak with any of the 8 Officers and Directors.
WNYR is your club.  What do you want that to mean?

Roy Bergman

Solo (Autocross) / Geauga Lake Autocross
« on: October 17, 2011, 08:31:47 am »
Went down to Cleveland yesterday and ran an event at Geauga Lake (used to be an amusement park, now closed down). The site is really interesting, LOTS of room, pavement is kind of variable -- some nice, clean asphalt, other places where it's really dirty and apparently never cleans up since the place is sort of in a swamp. The locals were telling me the Subies love it. Lots of camber changes, almost no hard objects. Site course area is probably about the size of Toledo.

Had fun in spite of "Champagne Run" weather.

Might be worth a road trip next year.

Solo (Autocross) / pdf's on new SCCA site
« on: October 13, 2011, 01:18:05 pm »
Anybody else have problems with getting pdf files from new scca site? I can't get any of them from, have no problem with pdf files from any other site.

Same issue whether I'm on Chrome, FireFox, or IE9. Same thing when I'm at home on my laptop. (Both on Win 7 Pro fwiw).

Kind of stupid that I have to use iPad to read scca pdf's....

As part of our new partnership with the American Le Mans Series, one SCCA member will be honored in each American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón television broadcast as the “SCCA Star Performer.” Robert Thorne and Chip Van Vurst have already been recognized in the Lime Rock and Mosport broadcasts, respectively, and the third recipient will be named this weekend, when the ALMS travels to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge. The Star Performer will be revealed during Saturday afternoon’s live broadcast on (3:15 p.m. EDT) and Sunday’s tape-delayed presentation on ESPN2 (10 p.m. EDT).
The SCCA Star Performer is selected by a panel of judges, based on recent efforts in SCCA’s national Club Racing, Solo and Rally programs. The recipient will be someone who shined above the rest, epitomizing the passion, effort and success within their performance.
Coverage of this weekend’s Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge begins Friday, Aug. 5, with live qualifying on at 2:20 p.m. (EDT). Live coverage of the race is also available on Saturday, Aug. 6 beginning at 3:15 p.m. (EDT). The television broadcast on ESPN2 will be aired on Sunday, Aug. 7, beginning at 10 p.m.
SCCA members are also encouraged to enter a sweepstakes for a trip for two to Round 8 of the American Le Mans Series at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The trip includes luxury oceanfront hotel accommodations and VIP hospitality provided by Tequila Patrón. Autocon Racing will also host a special opportunity for the sweepstakes winner, but only if they are an SCCA member. Registering for the contest is easy. Simply visit to make sure you get your chance to win a once-in-a lifetime trip!
