Solo (Autocross) / Re: We may no longer be able to host events....
« on: August 22, 2011, 11:26:30 am »
Being a safety steward is not hard. The training takes a couple of hours, maybe less. Mostly it's learning how to fill out the paper work if there is an incident.

It's really important that we get a good number of people with training because scheduling conflicts come up and we can't count on the same safety steward to be there every time. You can't have too many, it just takes working as safety steward a couple of times a year to maintain the license once you get it, so the more the merrier.

As part of our new partnership with the American Le Mans Series, one SCCA member will be honored in each American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón television broadcast as the “SCCA Star Performer.” Robert Thorne and Chip Van Vurst have already been recognized in the Lime Rock and Mosport broadcasts, respectively, and the third recipient will be named this weekend, when the ALMS travels to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge. The Star Performer will be revealed during Saturday afternoon’s live broadcast on (3:15 p.m. EDT) and Sunday’s tape-delayed presentation on ESPN2 (10 p.m. EDT).
The SCCA Star Performer is selected by a panel of judges, based on recent efforts in SCCA’s national Club Racing, Solo and Rally programs. The recipient will be someone who shined above the rest, epitomizing the passion, effort and success within their performance.
Coverage of this weekend’s Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge begins Friday, Aug. 5, with live qualifying on at 2:20 p.m. (EDT). Live coverage of the race is also available on Saturday, Aug. 6 beginning at 3:15 p.m. (EDT). The television broadcast on ESPN2 will be aired on Sunday, Aug. 7, beginning at 10 p.m.
SCCA members are also encouraged to enter a sweepstakes for a trip for two to Round 8 of the American Le Mans Series at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The trip includes luxury oceanfront hotel accommodations and VIP hospitality provided by Tequila Patrón. Autocon Racing will also host a special opportunity for the sweepstakes winner, but only if they are an SCCA member. Registering for the contest is easy. Simply visit to make sure you get your chance to win a once-in-a lifetime trip!

Hard to believe even a rookie would make that kind of mistake on the LAST LAP -- already had 199 chances to practice.

I'll be there. Hopefully there will be another safety steward there, so I can occasionally do something else.

News!!! / Message from SCCA President
« on: February 28, 2011, 12:01:41 pm »
Dear fellow SCCA members,
I hope this message finds you well and you are enjoying one of SCCA’s many forms of motorsports activities. Very soon you will be receiving a personalized email from letting you know of SCCA events in your area. In years past a member would receive flyers or entry forms in the mail notifying them of an upcoming event. With the proliferation of electronic media, most event information is now posted on a website. If you don’t proactively look for it, an event may come and go without your knowledge. By taking this approach we are helping to get the word out about upcoming events in your local and nearby regions. It is our hope that this approach will benefit the local regions by increasing participation and informing members of nearby events that they may not otherwise know about. Please be sure that your profile contains your current zip code so that you will receive information about events specific to your area. You can update your profile information: http://
SCCA has weathered the recent economic challenges well and we are poised to make significant investments in our programs and infrastructure in 2011. In fact, we will be investing more than $170,000 in equipment and software this year to improve our operations and expand our motorsports activities. We understand that people have a choice of where they want to spend their motorsports activity dollars. We all need to make sure that our actions and attitudes encourage our existing members, and potential new members, to select SCCA events when they are choosing where to have their fun. After all, if we’re not having fun, why would we do it?
Thank you for supporting SCCA and its programs. I hope to see you at an event soon!
