What class am I? *Thread*
« on: April 05, 2009, 07:53:40 pm »
This will probably come up a few times a year, might be good to make one general thread for the questions.

My '02 ended up spinning a rod bearing, so, I'm in to a new car.

2004 Subaru RS. StopTech drilled/slotted rotors, STi rear-sway, stock STi BBS' (17x7.5), 225/45/17 Potenza RE-01Rs.

Class?

He has an RS not a WRX.  All of the RS's are 2.5L, and go to STX.

RS = not turbo correct?  ST (former STS ) allows NA up to 3.1.  There are a bunch of rules related to brakes: voids for slots/holds < 10%, and for ST must be same rotor material as stock.  STX/STU brake rules allow more.

I am just making the assumption that the RS comes with an LSD in the rear, which would kick it out of ST, right?

looks like the 2.5 rs only came with a rear lsd in 2000-2001and possibly in 99.  Even then I think its a viscous coupling which is allowed in ST.

The only thing to worry about are the brake rotors but I doubt you really have to.  That rule was made to stop people from dramatically lightening their rotors.

14.6 BRAKES
A. Cross drilled and/or slotted brake rotors may be fitted (same
size/type/material as standard) provided all such voids are within
the disc area, and comprise no more than 10% of that area.

You should be fine for ST with your mods.

I ran STS/STX with my '02, and was pretty sure it'd be the same. Only question I had was with the brakes.

E Street Prepared

Mostly, it's the tune.  I'm assuming the protune you have modifies the boost from stock level, and that puts you here.  If you kept a cat somewhere in your exhaust, and put the boost back to stock, then you might be eligible for STX.

i do have one high flow cat in the down pipe and it is a 2.0L not the 2.5L, but my boost is turned up so that would place me in ESP?
